Shot tests

In this post i have taken just a few shots of some of the camera angles that we could potentially use in our trailer of Casey's Locket, there is a wide variety from close ups to capture intimate moments and also to show our audience their close up facial expressions.

Also mid shots which help show the body language and tension or lack there of, moreover this will really help us to establish the difference in personality/ popularity between them.

Finally we have high and low angle shots, to sow vulnerability or power in the scenes between Casey and Toby or even between Toby and Carly ( Toby's ex girlfriend)

Make up choices

Powered by emazeOur romantic comedy actress Ellie will have a natural make up look, as in this trailer she's not an object of sexual desire and we are representing her as the complete opposite, a nerdy girl who wears tape on hr glasses, has spots and hardly any make up.So Ellie will wear just a basic foundation and a small bit of blush just to show a natural look, whereas Carly will have a fuller face and more definition, showing the difference in hierarchy in school, which shows our audience that Carly is more popular

Wardrobe Decisions

Casting choices

This post is very important in the planning stage as we have to carefully decide who we want in our film and why they are right and explain why we actually picked them.
The audition tapes were very helpful when creatively choosing who i want in my trailer. Although we have more people in the audition tapes, than we do in the trailer. I picked the cast based on who fit the description and the look of the character we have created.

User Ratings on IMDB

In the above Picture are 6 of some of the user ratings for some well known Romantic comedies. From my findings, it is evident that Females from aged 18-45+ are interested and love romantic comedies compared to Males 18-45+ as they are more of a secondary audience and woman of all ages our the aimed target audience.

Audience Feedback for Script and Storyboard

Does it suit the conventional layout of a normal script?
Does the script suit the romantic comedy genre?
Do you like the first draft of the script?

Script Final

This is the final draft of the script, here there are finer details and stage directions are developed and the lines are more sophisticated.

Reflecting back on the very first draft i have realised that the characters would have more to say about how they actually felt towards someone who they didn't like in particular Casey, in the first draft she sounded really rude and self absorbed and in the final draft she is sophisticated and caring, which suits the character description.

Script Draft 1

The above picture is our very first idea of our script and what we want it to include as these are the key scenes we want in our trailer. Even though this first draft is unfinished, it still is giving our audience a sense of where our film is set, in a secondary school and we get a sense of how close toby and case are, as in where they live yet how far apart they are because they never speak.

In the brief over view of scene 3 we also get a sense of our other main characters ( toby's friends ) and our 'mean girls' aswel.

storyboard draft

The above video is my drawn storyboard in video format with a short explanation to show what characters are involved and what type of camera shot and angle will be used and in what location this part of the trailer will take place in.

production logo

The above images is my groups production logo, we designed a logo that's purposely in the shape of a heart to show that we are well known for our romantic comedies or dramas. The pink colour, is because it denotes a soft, warm and romantic tone, a long with being a feminine colour, which is perfect for our target audience.

5 Key Frames

The above pictures are my five key frames that i will include in my trailer.
this shows the audience the very basic plot ideas even just from these 5 key frames
of Casey dropping the locket out of her pocket, a close up on her face, Toby hanging around with his friends, the two studying and even the image of Toby's ex girlfriend Carly.

from these images, this tells my audience what to look out for in my trailer, moreover it also shows the conventions of a romantic comedy of having a unpopular teen that goes against the conventions of secondary school and a boy who tries to wreck her perfect grade streak, who will end up falling in love.

Music Planning

As i wanted to layer a song over the top of my Trailer, i sent out an Email to Kobolt records and asked them if i was allowed to use the song. This was the initial Email

Final concept of our film

Overall Synopsis

Overall Synopsis, even though we are just creating a film trailer, the synopsis is an important process of our creative process, because if we know where the trailer is going, as in developing into the film, then the audience know where we want it to go, so it becomes clear and help establish character relationships to make the filming process easier.

Moodboard

The above image is our Romantic Comedy Mood board!

Through research and watching the preludes to previous romantic comedies, we have created an collage of different colours, romantic comedies and images we see in these films.  In addition we also have some typical locations hat are included in romantic films.

From my findings i have found out that softer more pastel colours are used in younger teen romance films like pale pink and purples and richer, warmer colours are used in the more classic style romance film that include hollywood A-listers.

Because it is a romantic comedy there is normally a girly diary style font, which is perfect for our film because its about teenagers who are going to fall in love and she's a girl who is going to write in her diary like we expect any 16 year old to do.

in the top right are some photos of typical locations we have in romantic comedies, such as school, diners and restaurants. We are using a school in our film this is perfect for our mood board, which shows our audience what to expect.
